Picture This! festival: A creative oasis for young people

Picture This! has one goal in mind for young creatives to achieve at its art festival at St Paul’s African House in Shepparton this weekend: Confidence.

Young people aged 12 to 25 are encouraged to attend the free two-day event this Saturday and Sunday, filled with screenings, discussions and creative workshops running from 11am to 6pm.

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with mentors and peers through film, music and visual art.

Young people can look forward to seeing some of Shepparton’s finest creatives and visiting artists, including Mimi Leung, Neil Morris, Ree Peric and Juliet Miranda Rowe.

Picture This! co-producer Awak Kongor said she hoped to teach Shepparton’s young people about the power they possess.

“It’s daunting to be a first-time creator ... it’s nerve-racking to enter a space of creatives as a young person and not know if you can contribute,” she said.

“We encourage young people to use their unique perspective and tell their story through art, so that in the future they’ll have the confidence to walk into the industry knowing they have something to offer.”
