This summer, the Frank Ryan Raceway will open its gates for three stellar race days, with the Frank and Carmel Ryan Memorial Pace being the highlight of the three meetings.
Echuca Harness Racing Club secretary Hope Gamble said the New Year’s Day meeting was one of their most popular days on the calendar.
“We always have a great night with our January 1st race meet,” she said.
“Because there are so many people and families that make their way up to Echuca for Christmas and New Year’s, we always manage to get a good crowd and a great atmosphere.”
The racing club has organised plenty of entertainment on and off the track, with live music, jumping castles and a slip ‘n’ slide.
“We are also trying to organise the pony trots, which are always a big hit with the oldies and the young ones,” Hope said.
“Hopefully we will have good weather because we will also have an ice-cream van, which is always very popular.”
On the track, the highlight will be the Frank and Carmel Ryan Memorial Pace.
“Frank was the first secretary for the Echuca Harness Racing Club, and he held that position for many years,” Hope said.
“The race usually has a very strong field, and we hope for the same this year.
“It’s usually a really successful night, with visitors enjoying themselves not only on the track, but off it too.
“If you’re in the area on New Year’s Day, I’d highly recommend coming along to the track.”
The Echuca Harness Racing Club is located at the Frank Ryan Raceway, Simmie St, Echuca.
