Even in the face of his under-16s Murray United side’s loss to Melbourne Victory on Sunday, February 9, the left back remains sanguine about his team’s prospects.
Despite the scoreline - 7-1 in the Victory’s favour - Ayden, 14, said his team will have improved by the next time they meet the Melbourne side.
“We still lost by quite a bit, but it’s all right. I reckon next time we play them, it will be closer,” he said.
“From the first game to that, there was a lot of improvement.”
Even though the Victory was a difficult team to play, Ayden added it wasn’t as much of a challenge as he’d expected.
“If we play how we did against Melbourne Victory, and we keep it like that, we could be winning our games,” he said.
In a personal highlight from the match for Ayden was that he managed to prevent the Victory’s strikers pocketing a further two goals.

Ayden and his team faced Brunswick Juventus at home on Sunday.
An ardent fan of Chelsea FC, Ayden hopes to eventually turn his love for football into a career.
“I’d like to go further than Murray [United], I’d like to get into the MPL1 [Men’s Premier League Division 1, in the Victorian Churches Football Association],” he said.
