In the biggest match of the season, Trower delivered for his side against Nagambie in the grand final in a president’s performance worthy of the Greg Luscombe Medal.
Opening the bowling, Trower restricted the Lakers like a python with its prey.
Waaia’s star bowler and president claimed 5-27 in a commanding display.
One of the most impressive aspects of Trower’s performance though was his economy rate.
Trower went at an incredible 0.85 per over from his 31.4, with 15 maidens helping his side restrict Nagambie to a first innings total of 97.
While considerably more expensive in the second dig, Trower still finished with three wickets to make it eight for the match - and to cap it all off, the Bombers’ bastion hit the winning runs to send the stands berserk.
His player-of-the-match performance backed up his effort in Waaia’s Picola District League grand final when he also claimed the best-on-ground award.
Yet this time around, it might’ve been even better than his latest footy grand final collect.
“It’s one of the most incredible games of sport I’ve ever been involved in — footy, cricket, it was ridiculous,” he said.
“It was just ridiculous with the ups and flows and credit to Nagambie, they were unbelievable as well.
“They deserved just as much to win and you can’t fault any of their efforts. But that was one of the greatest wins I’ve been involved in.”
Trower said it all clicked on day one and that was paramount to setting up the game to be taken on.
“We just knew we had to stick to tight line, a bit like we’ve done the last couple of weeks and eventually it will create chances for us,” he said.
“There was a bit in the wicket as well which helped the bowlers, but we were just worried about trying to create some pressure by bowling some dot balls and the wickets would come from there.”
Lastly, as president of Waaia Cricket Club, the win made it even more special for a man who has fronted the town sporting-wise for years.
“I could not be more proud to be putting a president’s hat on,” he said.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the support we had here in a grand final, a big crowd, and just the way the two young boys Wilbur and Kaleb stuck it out in the first innings (was great).
“I could not be more proud since we’ve come into Cricket Shepparton and what we’ve been able to do.”
