Our Blue team found themselves at South Wangaratta for the second Friday night in a row as well to take on the Magpies Black team.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Blue Bushies team were determined to set a strong target for the home team.
Toby Smith got the runs ticking over with 16 and Dustin Nolan (15no) and Tom Lambert (22no) joined in on adding more to the board.
Ted Clancy retired and came back in to hit an unbeaten 43 no to steer the Blues onto a very healthy target of 145.
The opening bat for the hosts gave the Blue Bushies some worries making 31 no, the bowling attack stayed strong and was able to keep the wickets falling.
Nearly all the bowlers picked up wickets themselves, with Ted Clancy taking 2 for himself.
Final Score:
U12 Blue – 4/145
Wangaratta Magpies Black – 8/48 (10.1)
U12 Red
With two games at Arundel on Saturday morning, the Red team met Delatite at the Lake End of the ovals and sent the visitors into bat after winning the toss.
Wickets were hard to come by as Delatite batsmen started to retire after facing their 20 balls but eventually the breakthroughs came with Jimmy Humphrey and Maximus Reynolds taking two each off their overs.
Restricting the visitors to 73 runs after 20 overs, the Red Bushies were hoping to make a statement early on. Losing a couple of quick wickets wasn’t the best start but Hudson Pickering stood firm and got the Red team off to a good start with a quick 10 runs.
Bill Bourke (15no), Archer Pickering (14) and Louis Horne (14no) all made solid contributions to the teams totals with Jack McKenzie ensuring the win with a knock of 21.
Final Score:
U12 Red – 6/120
Delatite – 6/73
U12 Green
Down the road end of the Arundel St ovals, our U12 Green Bushies met the Wangaratta Magpies White team.
The visitors won the toss and sent our boys in for a bat. There were solid performances by multiple players with Bentley Parker (9) and Sam Mount (11) the pick of the bunch.
The Magpies were able to dismiss our Green side in 17.1 overs with 71 runs to their name.
The game came down to the wire in the end with some magic bowling by Matthew White. He picked up four wickets in total with three of these in his last over. Desperate running by the visitors got them over the line in a nail biter that had the whole crowd on its feet.
Final Score:
U12 Green – 8/71 (17.1)
Wangaratta Magpies White – 8/73 (19)
U14 Blue
In the second day of this round, the U14 Blue team were giving the chance to bat and chase down the 156 set by City Colts the week before.
The three openers made a great start to the innings with Xavier DeFazio (22), Hugh Ross (21) and Tom Osborne (31) getting the runs ticking over.
Tom Snell added another handy 15 to the total and Alex Lambert showed some class with 14 runs of his own.
In the end, it wasn’t quite enough to get the total they needed, but there were more then enough positive signs of things to come for this side.
Final Score:
U14 Blue – 8/140
City Colts – 6/156
U14 Red
Over at the Showgrounds, the U14 Red team were set to defend the total of 182 they posted the week before.
Although he wasn’t able to snag any wickets, Tom Mounts bowling was tight and consistent ending with 0/3 off four overs (three of his four were maidens).
Harry Skelton only let through four runs from his four overs as well.
The Smith boys, Oliver and Toby, combined with five wickets between them. Ollie was close to a hattrick but wasn’t to be this week.
Jack Dermott and Boden Hazell helped to close out the game in the 27th over.
Final Score:
U14 Red – 5/182 (40)
City Colts – 9/58 (27)
U16
Day two for the U16’s saw them go out to have a bat. A target of 195 was set by Ovens Valley the week before but the Bushies were ready to have a crack.
Lucas Ham kicked off the campaign and made a quick fire 24 to set the tone. Mitch Cooney (36no) opened the batting and stayed in until the end doing all he could to try and get the runs needed.
Josh Hart (38) was looking comfortable at the crease until he was caught.
Unfortunately, with a few injuries and player unavailability, the 16s just ran out of batters and after the eighth wicket fell in the 33rd over, the game was done.
Final Score:
U16 Bushrangers – 8/134 (32.1)
Ovens Valley – 10/195 (38.2)
Seniors
A-Reserve
Coming off a big loss the week before, A Res were hoping to get the season back on track against the City Colts.
Winning the toss, the Bushies chose to bat first.
Vishal Sharma opened the batting and basically took the game apart on his own. Making a phenomenal individual effort with the bat, Vishal ended with 125 runs which included 13 boundaries and seven sixes.
With no other batter getting into double figures, Vishal was man of the match and the stand out in their batting performance.
Defending 184, the Bushies made light work of the openers and starting their bowling innings with two quick wickets for just the one run.
Sameera Witherana had the ball on a string taking four wickets off his eight overs.
Mitch Wheelens and Dale Stratton both contributed with two wickets each as well.
Will Keen showed incredible improvement and was rewarded with a wicket off his three overs as well.
Final Score:
A-Reserve – 10/184 (39.1)
City Colts – 10/73 (30.3)
B Grade
Our B Grade sided hosted Merton at the Gardens and were given the opportunity to bowl first by the visitors.
Everyone’s favourite Pollard, Leigh, made short work of the Merton batters taking 4/14 off eight.
He was supported by Stewart McLeod with 3/18 off eight overs.
The Merton boys dug in and kept chipping away to eventually post a target of 104 into the 33rd over.
Coming into bat, Jordan Smith knew that he’d have to perform considering how well his boys had gone in the 14s together. A solid 19 runs to get the scorecard ticking over was enough, with Kieren Linke adding 22 of his own.
Leigh Pollard continued his good form with a top score of 30 to help steer the Bushies to the win with both wickets and overs in hand.
Final Score:
B Grade – 4/105 (25.5)
Merton – 10/104 (32.3)
C Grade Red
Back at Arundel, the C Grade side were looking to keep the winning streak alive and knew it would be a tough ask against ladder leaders Beechworth (Stanley).
Losing the toss, the Bushies were asked to bowl first and Stanley’s openers made it a tough ask for the Bushies side.
Paul Ivery getting the breakthrough wicket that was needed with Uday snaring an important wicket to a batter that was looking to make some serious runs.
After the 36 overs, Stanley had made 189 runs for the Bushies to meet.
Greg Hoysted (10) and David Priest (12) got the runs going and Mark Botten (34) and Paul Ivery (25) put together a great partnership to add to the total.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough to take victory from the top team in the grade.
Final Score:
C Grade Red – 9/123
Beechworth (Stanley) – 4/189
C Grade Blue
The Bushies Father/Son team met Greta’s own Father/Son team over in Moyhu and after winning the toss the Bushies chose to bowl first.
Our young sons of the team stood up to the challenge with Harry Skelton and Josh Hart each taking two wickets.
Mark Osborne, not wanting to be shown up by kids, also took two of his own as well.
Boden Hazell and Hugh Ross were given the responsibility to bowl out the game and showed a lot of patience and composure beyond their years.
Hugh coming away with 2/6 from his spell.
Able to dismiss the team for 86 runs with three overs to spare, the Bushies sent Sam Hazell and Tom Osborne in to open.
Sam retired himself on 36 runs due to old age but also to allow some of the young boys to come in for a bat.
Tom made a very handy 33 runs and overall had a great day of cricket in both juniors and C Grade.
Brothers Josh and Jack Hart finished at the crease together and, in typical older brother form, Josh keeping the strike to himself and denying Jack the opportunity to make the winning runs.
Final Score:
C Grade Blue – 2/87 (26.3)
Greta White – 10/86 (33)
