Shepparton’s WB Hunter Reserve will host the Victorian State Showjumping Titles from November 16-18, put on by the Northern Victorian Show Jumping Club (NVSJC) in partnership with Jumping Victoria.
Underscoring the competitors’ commitment to the sport, the three-day event will kick off proceedings each day at the early hour of 7.30am, with international broadcaster Horse and Country set to stream the weekend’s action.
The NVSJC’s Steph Waddell encourages locals to get involved.
“It’s going to be a huge event. We’ve got hundreds of riders and rounds of showjumping taking place each day,” Waddell said.
“We’re very lucky to be running the event in the GV, as it’s usually held down in Werribee, and it’s a prestigious show.
“We’ve had so much local and regional business support.”
Victorian state prizes are on the line across four age categories; children’s, junior, young rider and senior divisions.
So much so that riders from interstate will also make their way over to contest the categories.
The Senior events will serve as the weekend’s centrepiece when the show wraps up on Sunday, featuring a starting jump height of 1.45m — nearly 5ft high — as the get-in.
Waddell says the future is bright for showjumping in the state, but particularly in this region.
“We were very honoured to be offered the chance to run it,” Waddell said.
“We’re not a small club, but we’re lucky to have this chance.
“It’s an exciting sport and it’s getting bigger and bigger with European showjumping taking off as well.
“Come and have a look this weekend. It’s free entry through the gates.”
