A flurry of frisbee activity will take over Shepparton Sports City, with the nation’s top 13 teams to do battle today and Saturday and Sunday, before division two takes the stage next weekend, with 32 teams to compete from Friday, October 14.
More than 900 competitors are anticipated to stay in Shepparton for the events.
“We are very excited to welcome Australia’s top Ultimate Frisbee athletes to Greater Shepparton, the capital of all sporting events,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“The mixed championships will see the very best male and female competitors using their strength and agility to sprint, leap and throw their way to victory, a lot more thrilling than your average backyard or park game.
“Ultimate Frisbee is a growing sport and we are proud to host them and invite them to experience all that Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley have to offer and having these athletes stay in our city for not only one but two, three-day competitions greatly benefits our visitor economy industries and has positive flow-on effects for all local businesses as they sleep, eat, explore and play in the region.”
After hosting past versions of the event in 2017 and 2018, the event returns to Greater Shepparton after being on a COVID-19-enforced hiatus since 2019.
National selectors will be in attendance during the three days and may issue invites to national selection events being held in Melbourne in November.
Those successful will compete at the Asian Oceanic Ultimate Championships taking place in 2023.
The mixed championships are being held at Shepparton’s Sports City precinct and are free for all spectators to attend.
