Peter Harrison and Tom Oliver started well against some tight bowling from James and Tom Irvine.
Unfortunately they both lost patience, which led to quick wickets falling leaving us 5-21.
Josh Wraight (26) and Cooper Harris (46) counter attacked well, finding the boundary regularly and putting the pressure back on Katamatite.
When Josh Wraight departed, Harris batted well with the lower order with Liam Sutton and Angus Bouchier providing support.
Unfortunately for Tocumwal, the side did not use all the overs available to them, being all out for 108.
Despite this it was an excellent innings from Harris who showed great placement and timing throughout.
The Tocumwal side then went out into the field knowing it would be challenging.
Cooper Harris backed up his performance with the bat to take the opening wicket, well caught at point by Christina Roberts.
Katamatite showed great patience when batting and waited well for the bad ball, especially Tyler Green who ended up 61 not out.
Overall we bowled tight areas and cut off a lot of runs in the field but could not get the key breakthrough.
Katamatite chased the 108 runs after 23.4 overs to win by nine wickets.
It was a good effort from everyone from Tocumwal, but unfortunately the top order didn’t give the team enough runs to work with.
Well done to Declan Cameron on his Tocumwal A-grade debut, and a fantastic first over going for only one run.
Overall the game was played in good spirits and the side know what they need to work on as a team to get better.
C-grade
C-grade started the season on Saturday with a game against a strong Deni side.
Tocumwal won the toss and elected to bat first.
Cooper Mangion (1) fell early, so Matthew Burrowes and Terence Parker looked to steady.
However, when Parker (11) fell it lead to a collapse which had us staring down the barrel of a very quick day at 5-25.
Enter Brandon Meloury (53 retired) and Aaron Shepherd (27) who put on a very nice and controlled partnership.
They got us to a very respectable total of 8-123 off our 35 overs.
Tocumwal entered the field with Lachie McDonald (0-9) and James White (0-18) taking the new ball.
Cooper Mangion (1-14) bowled an extremely good spell in tandem with secret weapon Dennis Sutton (0-7).
By this stage Deni had a stranglehold on the game at 1-84 at drinks.
Looking to inject a bit of youth into the game, we put Deni to the sword with a three-pronged attack of the White family.
James White finished his overs out well, while both Sam and Max White got the better of James by taking a wicket each.
Sam finished with figures of 1-10 and Max with 1-3.
Deni chased down the total to finish at 3-125 in the 28th over.
Tocumwal was pleased with the result against such a strong side, and if the team hold onto a few catches who knows what this report could read like in other rounds.
