Things were never going to be easy for fourth-placed Katamatite Tigers when they hosted an in-form Nathalia last Thursday, January 23, for round 12 of the MVCA.
After the Tigers won the toss and elected to bat in the Twenty20 fixture, Tyler Green opened the batting for the home side, claiming 21 from 32 balls. Ben Lucas (21 from 22, three fours), Kepler Lukies (21 from 21), and Brayden Beaton (13 from 16) were key figures in their side’s innings.
Such efforts brought Katamatite up to 6-115 at the end of its 20 overs. But Nathalia was eager to exhibit why it has remained near the top of the league’s ladder.
One reason came in the form of Samuel Boyd, who proved a thorn in the Tigers’ side when he stayed on to bat 65 not out from 53. Combined with efforts from Scotty Morris (13 from 12) and Ewan Congues (13 from 10), the visitors went on to defeat their hosts by the 18th over.
Nathalia won 4-117 to Katamatite’s 6-115.
