It was a positive start for the Tigers, who went into the match as the heavy underdogs, up against the third-placed Cats (13-4), with the two sides separated by just five goals at the quarter-time break.
From there the Cats’ class began to show, however, as they restricted Cobram to just five goals in the second term while piling on another 16 of their own to hold a significant 30-14 lead at the main break.
The Tigers managed to stem the bleeding in the third term, staying with Finley for much of the quarter, although the Cats did manage to extend the advantage out to 18 goals at the final change.
The visitors rounded out a strong performance with another dominant term, surpassing 50 goals for the 14th time this season en-route to the 52-29 win.
There was some cause for Cobram celebration, however, with the trio of Kate Bird, Leah Nish and Sophie Kennedy playing their 50th games for the club.
It is a disappointing result for Cobram, who had found form to go 2-1-1 in the previous four rounds, the team’s best stretch this season, although the players will look to end the season on a high this week against Mulwala.
The Lions sit one spot above Cobram on the ladder (7th, 8-9), although too far ahead to catch; however, the Tigers will be keen to record a victory in their final match, which would ensure an eighth-place finish.
Congupna (9th, 4-13) are just one win behind Cobram, with a much healthier percentage, and can demote the Tigers to ninth if Cobram were to lose, and the Road were to win over Echuca United.
