The ladies have been blessed with perfect weather every week. The regular season has been completed and this Thursday there will be a rankings shootout involving players of similar ability grouped together.
Following this there will be pizza and presentations to reflect on a fantastic and very popular competition.
In the first match Bubble-o-Bills and Hearts had a great battle finishing at 3 sets all with the Bubble-o-Bills winning by 4 games. Kiera Buerckner once again won all of her sets to be best on court.
Lifesavers were on fire with a comprehensive 6 sets to 0 win against Barney Bananas. The team of Win Win Htwe, Lara Angwin, Laura Nunn and Sam Webster were in great form.
Sunnyboys proved a little too strong for Zooper Doopers winning 4 sets to 2. Club Champion Lucy Bassett was too strong to win all of her matches.
Frosty Fruits produced the same result with a 4 sets to 2 win over Drumsticks. Savernake legend Norma Toms was in great touch to not drop a set.
In the final match of the night Calippos defeated Paddle Pops 5 sets to 1. Youngsters Tess Bassett and Natalie Linehan led the way with 3 wins apiece.
The ladder at the completion of the regular season is Lifesavers 39, Calippos 34, Sunnyboys 28, Hearts 27, Paddle Pops 27, Bubble-o-Bills 27, Frosty Fruits 25, Drumsticks 19, Barney Bananas 12, Zooper Doopers 12, Splices 11.
Saturday Juniors
With nearly 30mm of overnight rain the courts looked more like a swimming pool than tennis courts. This meant that play was not possible.
This means Premier League was not played. This weekend will be the third and final round of Premier League. The ladder after Round 2 is Lions 37, Hoppers 32, Pigeons and Bears 30.
All regular coaching, Hot Shots and matchplay will continue as normal. This weekend will be the second last Saturday morning before the break.
Wilby Tennis
Round 8 of Wilby Tennis was washed out. Disappointed players will be keen to have a hit this weekend.
After round 8 the ladder is Tungamah Green 52, Telford 48, Burramine 46, Mulwala Gold 33, Wilby 32, Mulwala Maroon 21, Tungamah Gold 18 and Savernake 6.
For round 9 and the final round before an extended Christmas break there will be a Gather Round with all matches being played at Yarrawonga on Friday night.
This will create a tremendous atmosphere with all 8 teams and their extended entourages at the best grass courts going around.
The matches will be Tungamah Gold vs Mulwala Maroon, Savernake vs Wilby, Burramine vs Telford and Mulwala Gold vs Tungamah Green.
Tuesday Mens Tennis
The Tuesday Mens round 3 was washed out. This was the prelude to even more rain later in the week.
With three rounds to go prior to Christmas the players will be keen to get back on court this week.
The ladder after round 3 is Nadal 18, Sampras 16, Borg 14, McEnroe 13, Federer 13, Connors 12, Laver 12, Djokovic 11, Wilander 11, Agassi 11, Lendl 9, Becker 8 and Edberg 8.
Interleague Tennis Challenge
On Saturday Yarrawonga was to host the inaugural interleague challenge between the Shepparton and Albury/Wodonga Tennis Associations.
The top 16 players from each Association were to battle it out in a range of singles and doubles rubbers to see which Association would take bragging rights.
Unfortunately, the rain forced this to be abandoned.
The players involved were very disappointed but it has already been pencilled in for the 2025/26 season.
