It may not have been pretty, but the Magpies were able to get the job done in the round-10 Murray Football League encounter.
Moama toughed out a 9.13 (67) to 7.6 (48) victory on their home deck, which was all coach Luke Eldridge cared about when he spoke to McPherson Media Group.
“Winning ugly is a thing that comes to kind,” Eldridge said.
“We were happy to come away with the win even if it wasn't our best game we have played for the season.
“There were some concerns, especially in the latter part of the match where United got within a goal and we were missing a lot of shots, we missed a lot of opportunities and from guys who are good goal kickers.
“But at the end of the day we got the win and that's key.”
Josh Pell and James Whitehead were the top performers for the Magpies, while United's Peter Quanchi (three goals) put in a best-on effort for the Eagles.
● The two-week hiatus had no effect on Cobram in its hit-out against fierce rivals Barooga.
The Tigers strolled to a 20.14 (134) to 7.5 (47) drubbing over the Hawks, despite being without a trio of regular senior faces - Cadeyn Williams, Tim Baker and Sam Gemmill, - because of travel restrictions.
Cobram coach John Brunskill said his playing group was chomping at the bit to get back out on the footy field after the recent lockdown.
“The boys were really looking forward to getting back out there,” Brunskill said.
“We have such a young group and I know that the teenagers were pretty keen to play.
“It's been tough, it's been tough on every club, hopefully we can get back to a bit of normality.”
Teenager Izak Artavilla led the way for Cobram as he showcased his sublime talents in slippery conditions.
Multiple club best-and-fairest winner Tyron Baden was at his damaging best, while forward Ben Ryan booted four majors.
Brunskill said ruckman Kyle Coates played his "best game this season" after battling against Barooga's star power in the ruck department.
Former AFL talent Jackson Trengove (one goal) flew the flag for Barooga in a brave performance, while Callum Leighton-Daly and Will Robinson recorded strong efforts.
“I thought our leg speed played a big role in setting up the win,” Brunskill said.
“Our pressure and tackling on the ball carrier were both superb.
“It was tough to pick the best players, just like Mulwala, there was 15 to 16 players who performed well.”
Brunskill revealed Kade Zito copped a blow to his hand and would need scans to assess the extent of the injury.
● A top-four encounter turned into a fizzer as Nathalia cruised to a 38-point victory over Mulwala.
The Purples ran out 17.8 (110) to 11.6 (72) winners away from home.
Star talent Tom Nihill was best-on for Nathalia, while Bailey Bell enjoyed a strong performance for his old club while on clearance from Goulburn Valley League outfit, Tatura.
Nathalia also spoiled the party of Mulwala's Tim Doyle, who was celebrating his 150th appearance for the Lions.
● Lastly, a touch of VFL class helped guide Deniliquin Rams to a 96-point shellacking over Finley.
Former junior and Werribee gun Jack Henderson showcased his classy attributes with six goals and a best afield outing for the Rams.
Henderson was joined by Northern Football League duo Luke Collins and Jai Robinson - who finished in the list of better players - while Sam Lloyd was unable to make an appearance because of travel restrictions.
For the Cats, Tim Robertson and Jed Brain were the two standouts.
