Old Students’ Gino Saracino was charged on two counts of dissent towards an umpire during his side’s loss to Katandra at Kialla Park Reserve on Saturday, January 29.
Old Students had opeted to challenge the verdict at the tribunal on Friday, however, the club failed to lodge the required appeal money by the time limit and the appeal will not proceed.
Saracino was charged with two counts of a level two (i) offence via rule 43.2 table 4B that a player “show serious dissent at an umpire’s decision”.
The rule continues to state that “dissent will be classified as serious where the conduct contains an element of anger or abuse that is directed at the umpire or the umpire’s decision or where there is excessive delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket”.
Meanwhile, two C-grade players from Undera Cricket Club face stints on the sidelines.
Dino Battiston was handed a five-match suspension from Undera’s match against Mooroopna on Saturday at John Gray Oval.
Battiston was charged with one count of dissent towards an umpire under level three (i) offence table 4C, in which a player is found to have “intimidate or attempt to intimidate an umpire or referee whether by language or conduct”.
Teammate and Undera’s C-grade captain Steven Valentin was also offered a one-week suspension from the same game.
Valentin was charged with one count of a level two (i) offence via rule 43.2 table 4B.
The Undera skipper will miss one match.
Cricket Shepparton said it supported the decision from the umpires on trying to stamp out abuse from the game.
“Umpires are really cracking down on dissent and Cricket Shepparton fully supports their decision,” a league spokesperson said.
“We want this type of behaviour stamped out and this sort of stuff is just unacceptable.
“We want to encourage people to become an umpire and not turn them away.”
