It is expanding in its reach, with new training centres opening up in the twin towns of Echuca-Moama and Cobram-Barooga.
And it is also expanding in its recruiting, having recently debuted an exciting new innovation in the Female Umpire Academy.
These measures have been put in place to ensure football in the region gets umpiring of the highest quality, and everyone across the district, from Seymour to Barooga, can have the same opportunity to get involved.
When it comes to umpiring, the benefits are endless.
Whether it is earning a bit of extra pocket money, getting a little bit fitter or having a fun social outlet — there is a role for everyone in the umpiring community.
Andrew Moore, who embarks on his second season as AFL Goulburn Murray’s regional director of umpiring, says the association is in a great place leading into the season.
“Numbers are looking pretty good at the moment, it is still early days and we’re always on the lookout for new members, but for where we are in the season I am very happy,” Moore said.
“We’ve got a few come-and-try days coming up as well which we hope will boost numbers, and then the Female Umpire Academy is another really exciting innovation.
“Trying to expand our reach has been our number one aim this off-season and we have put a lot in place to do that.”
So for anyone still on the fence about joining, Moore has this simple message.
“Umpiring can cater for every single person,” he said.
“Whether you are young, old, a runner, not a runner, you love footy, you know the rules, you don’t know the rules, we can accommodate for you and coach you to be a successful umpire.”
