Tatura Bowls Club will host the first preliminary round of the Bowls Premier League Cup on February 2 with the action beginning at 9.30am.
The cup is regarded as the “world’s biggest club-based bowls competition”, with clubs across Australia’s states and territories hosting preliminary rounds from February 1 to August 10.
Winners of the preliminary rounds will then advance to regional finals, followed by state finals and end with a national final.
This will be held at Club Pine Rivers in Brisbane from October 28-31.
Clubs of varying size can enter the cup, meaning a small country town bowls side can dream of making it to the grand final.
In 2024 1,002 teams and more than 3,200 players participated in the open-gendered competition.
The format will be two sets of five ends made up of teams of three to four participants playing two-bowl triples.
Clubs that win their state finals will receive an expenses-paid trip, in terms of flights and accommodation, to the national final.
The BPL Cup partners the Bowls Premier League with Bowls Australia’s Jack Attack format — a fast-paced version of bowls aimed at increasing participation with non-bowling members of the community.
A full list of clubs set to host the initial rounds of the cup has not yet been finalised, but out of the organisations within the region, it has been confirmed Benalla Bowling Club will host a preliminary round event on Sunday, May 11.
This will be the 22nd edition of the Bowls Premier League, with the October 2025 leg of the competition set to run alongside the cup at Club Pine Rivers.
The BPL Cup has been around since 2017, with 2025 being the ninth edition of the tournament.
NSW club Ettalong will be looking to make it a three-peat of cup victories this year.
Tatura and Benalla will be hoping to be the first Victorian bowls clubs since Highton in 2022 and City Memorial in 2021 to win the cup.
