The region’s bowlers are enjoying some time off before the season restarts on January 11-12.
However, while the Goulburn Valley’s abundance of bowls lovers give their hands, wrists and knee joints a well-earned break, some of the best players in Victoria are set to battle it out on January 4-5.
Shepparton Golf Bowling Club is hosting its annual Invitational Classic Pairs tournament, with a whopping $10,000 prize for the victors.
The tournament will kick off bowls for 2025 and will be a must-watch event for fans of the sport from throughout the region and beyond.
Victorian state team members Brad Orr and Anthony Flapper will be the highest-profile players participating on Saturday and Sunday.
The pair is the returning champion of the tournament and will be eager to defend its crown.
The trip to Shepparton Golf Bowling Club will also be a return home for Orr, who was part of nearly a decade of both team and individual success in the Goulburn Valley Playing Area pennant division one competition.
After departing Shepparton Golf’s side in 2024, Orr joined Essendon in Bowls Victoria’s Premier Division.
Orr’s decision to move was based on family reasons and the opportunity to play consistent high-level bowls.
Shepparton Golf Bowling Club is expecting a bumper crowd as the talent-laden tournament brings in the new year.
The official welcome of the event is at 9.50am, with the matches beginning at 10am.
The bar will be open and a barbecue will sizzle away throughout the day.
Saturday and Sunday’s format will be a three-bowl pair style.
