Kyabram’s defensive stocks are set to be bolstered for this weekend’s Goulburn Valley League grand final clash against Echuca.
The Bombers booked a spot in the upcoming decider following Sunday’s gritty and hard-fought 13-point preliminary final win over Euroa.
Star defenders Jason Morgan and Lachie Smith missed the weekend’s contest at Deakin Reserve.
Kyabram coach Paul Newman, speaking after the win against the Magpies, expected his two multiple-winning premiership talents to push their case for selection ahead of the big dance.
“Morgs will be right with his ankle, but Lachie will be touch and go,” Newman said.
“He (Lachie) pulled up a bit tight in his calf on Thursday, he’s confident he’ll be right (for the grand final).”
Newman said it was a conservative approach to have Smith miss at the weekend.
“You roll the dice today and he probably doesn’t come up for next week if you win,” the Bombers mentor said.
With Morgan and Smith to be pushing their case, it will give Newman and his staff some selection headaches come Thursday after training.
“Potentially, it’s nothing new when you’re competing in a grand final, there’s always going to be hard luck stories,” Newman said.
