The Demons witnessed a mass overhaul over the off season, but after taking last year’s runner-up Echuca all the way in round one of the Goulburn Valley League season, it was only a matter of time until the Demons turned the heat up.
And on Saturday against Mansfield at Deakin Reserve, the setting was sweltering.
In 30-plus degree temperatures, United started hot as they leapt out to an uncontested six goal lead, with boom recruit Abby Gilmore working in tandem with goaling partner Hannah Onley.

Up by 10 at the first break, the Demons had full control with former Shepparton Bear Montanna Burke running the midcourt while ex-Mooroopna tall Taylah Lloyd marshalled the defence alongside Grace McInneny.
Mansfield pushed and pulled, but service to the circle proved hard to come by and at half-time, United were on the right side of a 23-10 ledger.
With Olivia Kirby winning a ton of ball in wing defence, the hosts continued to extend the lead despite a fruitful third quarter from Eagles leader Alex Ball and the fourth belonged to United as Gilmore found another gear beneath the ring.
Following the 46-25 victory, Sali was chuffed with her first four points at the helm of a new-look United side.
“It feels amazing and I think it was deserved,” she said.
“We've put in a lot of hard work and everything that we've worked on we put out there today and we got the good win.”
Sali noted the narrow defeat to Echuca in round one buoyed her side’s outlook, with squad cohesion already apparent after just two competitive matches.
“It hypes up our confidence quite a bit,” she said.
“Knowing that we can push a top side, it gives us a lot of confidence and brings a new aspect and new goals that we’re going to push for now.
“It actually feels like we've been playing together for a lot longer than we have.
“We've had all the girls on the court since November last year, so although we haven't actually taken the court (in the league), we've trained together for a long time, so it’s feeling nice.”
Sali also credited the performances of Kirby on the wing, as well as the shooting pair of Gilmore and Onley.
All seven United starters will need to be on song when the Demons return to Deakin for a Good Friday classic against co-tenant Shepparton, a game that Sali is not shying away from.
“I cannot wait for that game,” she said.
“We've got Taylah (Lloyd) out next week, so that's a big loss, but I still think with the group we've got, we'll bring it to Shepp Bears and hopefully it's a great game.”
Over at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, Rochester stunned the hosting Cats with a remarkable 11-goal upset.
The Tigers trailed 13-9 at quarter time but flipped the script in no time, taking a five goal lead into the half and building it into a 56-45 victory as shooter Tia Webb (44 goals) ran the show.
Reigning premier Euroa dusted off Echuca 67-49 in a grand final rematch, while Tatura and Shepparton made light work of Kyabram and Benalla respectively.
Finally, Seymour prevailed 56-48 over Shepparton Swans with classy goaler Ellie Fuhrmeister celebrating a significant milestone, racking up game number 200 for the Lions.
“Ellie is amazing, she’s a huge club person, she’s such a nice person off the court and she’s a fantastic player,” coach Casey Adamson said.
“I think she just brings so much experience and calmness, in that goal circle.
“I was just having a chat to her, it’s so funny that a lot of those games she’s played at goal shooter, and obviously we are a little bit short on players, so she got shot out to goal attack in the heat as well for her 200th celebration.
“I think she’s just an awesome person, the way she led our club for those four years when she was coach for those three premierships across B Res, B grade and A grade, it’s history making, and we are just so lucky to have her at our club.”
