Young gun Harriet Gall will miss the entire 2025 A-grade Goulburn Valley League season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during pre-season.
The star goaler was selected in the Australian 21-and-under squad in 2024 and had recently been elevated by her Victorian Netball League club Bendigo Strikers from the under-23 side to the championship team.
Shepparton Swans co-coach Jana Riordan said Gall’s injury is unfortunate for both the gifted netballer and the club.
“That is a fairly significant out,” Riordan said.
“(Gall) probably wasn’t going to play all 18 rounds, but it is still a big loss for our squad.
“She is still playing a role off the court, which we are really happy about.”
In good news for Swans and their fans, the club will see two stars return to the club for the upcoming season.
After a year in the Murray League playing for Finley, gun goaler Chelsea McDonald will once again don the red and white in 2025.
McDonald was the Swans’ A-grade best-and-fairest winner in 2023 and will be a key part of the club’s hunt for a return to finals.
Meanwhile, Riordan said the Princess Park side has signed another familiar face to the A-grade line-up.
“We have added Klarindah Hudson-Proctor who has been either our runner-up or best-and-fairest in those years prior,” she said.
“She is back into the squad after she had her first baby last year.
“We are excited to welcome those two players back.”
Shepparton Swans make up a number of clubs looking to make the leap from perennially landing on the edge of the top six to becoming a mover and shaker in September action.
Joining Riordan as co-coach of the Swans in 2025 will be Kate Betson.
