After the game was rescheduled to Friday night — to not interfere with the players’ plans on Mother’s Day — Strikers made the trip west to Bendigo to take on Eaglehawk.
The Strikers were able to return to form last weekend after they lost for the first time in a couple of years in round two, but no-one would have been expecting the goal-scoring onslaught that was about to occur at Bendigo Hockey Centre.
The Shepparton side plundered Eaglehawk for all it had as the Strikers piled on nine goals to none throughout the match.
Strikers player-coach Xavier McBain was at the centre of all the action, scoring six goals himself.
Duncan Moodie, Kieran Murphy and fill-in Max Cole scored the other three goals.
The Shepparton side currently sits in second place on the ladder, with Strathdale in first as the only undefeated team left in the league this season.
The Strikers will play last-placed Mooroopna this Friday at Shepparton Regional Hockey Complex as McBain’s side hunts three wins on the trot.
In other Regional Hockey League round four matches, Strathdale made light work of Mooroopna, winning the game by nine goals.
Bendigo Senjuns defeated Echuca-Moama 5-1, while the SYC Hockey Club and Sandhurst results were not released at the time of print.
In the Women’s League 2, Mooroopna suffered a heavy defeat to PEGS Hockey Club away from home, losing the match 6-1.
Mooroopna’s Kim Broadhurst was the lone goal scorer.
