Near perfect conditions on day two of the 2023 Nagambie Regatta were ideal for Euroa’s Emily Belcher who loves to race on smooth water.

Belcher made the final in her single scull completing the 1000m course in less than five minutes, but was disappointed with her slower race in the final and knows she will need to work harder to have a chance at a medal at the State Championships next week.
Belcher stroked the double scull with schoolmate Olivia Anderson, the duo has been getting stronger with each regatta and this was its quickest time on Lake Nagambie.
The 2022-23 season has been one hurdle after another for Shepparton Rowing Club, but now the rowers are back training on the water, they are looking forward to developing their racing skills under the new team of coaches Anna Chalkley and James Eldred.
Both have extensive rowing experience and are enthusiastic about the future of rowing in Shepparton.
Giving instructions: Coxswain Olivia Anderson.
Stepping up from the juniors St Anne’s College’s Tom Nalder qualified for the final of the C-grade single scull.
The final was fast with Nalder shaving 12 seconds off his time in the heat finishing in sixth place.
Nalder teamed with Eldred in the double, but they were outclassed by the other crews.
Shepparton’s senior sculler Robert Gordon put in a massive day, he paired with Chalkley in the mixed double scull before stroking a mixed quad with Eldred, Chalkley and Belcher, with Anderson in the cox seat.
The eclectic crew got off to great start keeping level with the other boats until halfway down the course when the Richmond crew upped its stroke rating racing ahead of the other crews.
Shepparton worked hard trying to keep up with the crews from Melbourne and Bairnsdale crossing the finish line in fourth place.
Gordon finished the day coming fifth in the H division masters single scull.
