Netball Victoria has rolled out seven venues that will host the Association Championships across May and June next year and Shepparton is on the list.
On May 25 next year, lights out action will arrive at the Brauman St courts as Shepparton Netball Association hosts the North East qualifiers for the 10th time.
The best young local talent will be pitted against the best of the wider region, hoping to book a place in the Association Championships finals day held at the State Netball Centre in Parkville.
For one SNA side, doing so would mean repeat business.
The association’s 13-and-under side — as well as an age-group equivalent from the Murray Netball League — went all the way to Melbourne this year to test themselves against Victoria’s brightest up and comers.
And this year, Netball Victoria is celebrating 25 years of the competition which has been the first stepping stone for so many netballers who have since gone on to play for the Melbourne Vixens or represent their country with the Australian Diamonds.
Netball Victoria’s high performance and pathways general manager Megan Simpson said it’s set to be another epic installation of the titles in 2025.
“The strength of the Victorian netball pathway begins at Association Championships where the best netball talent in those regions is on show,” she said.
“The Association Championships are integral to the pathway and development of athletes and umpires with talent identification opportunities at each event. This allows Netball Victoria to grow a strong pool of talent in both disciplines.
“We thank the associations who have been selected to host the 25th year of Association Championships.
“Their commitment to developing the next generation of netballers is much appreciated by Netball Victoria and we look forward to working in partnership with them to deliver successful events.”
To participate in the Association Championships, athletes are selected in their association and league’s representative teams, while umpires are selected and nominated by their association and league to Netball Victoria.
