Held across February 27 and 28, the Shepparton athletes competed in 152 events, which resulted in 28 gold, 20 silver and 16 bronze medals for the home club.
Overall 319 athletes entered in 1066 individual events, with 16 of the 20 centres in the northern country region represented across the two days.
Shepparton president Aileen Zanelli was all praise for northern country region competition manager Chris Doubleday.
“Chris did a mammoth job,” Zanelli said.
“As the northern country region competition manager, Chris collates all the entries, delegates jobs for each club and does the programs and it wouldn't run without her.”
Zanelli said extra volunteers were rostered on to cope with the changes associated with COVID-19.
“The shot put and implements had to be sanitised, the long jump and triple jump rakes had to be wiped,” she said.
“It didn't hold up proceedings too much.
“We had more people rostered on to make sure the cleaning was done and COVID-19 marshals were in place to make sure everything ran smoothly."
The event ran in place of the regional relays after they were cancelled due to the reshuffling of other events.
