You may not believe it, but the fairways of Shepparton Golf Club have witnessed another remarkable hole-in-one accomplishment.
Two weeks after Sonya Hill shared in the joy of her achievement on the second hole at a Legacy Day event, Matthew Diramacca has added his name to the list of one-swing wonders at Shepparton during their Thursday medley event.
This time, the par-three fifth hole would mark the scene.
“We were up on the fifth, about 160m away,” Diramacca said, describing the fateful moment.
“I was playing with Mark Eastman and my cousin David and I just started at the back of the tee, picked a four-hybrid and set a beautiful shot.”
And why not brim with confidence after pulling a remarkable occurrence within a full year of picking up the clubs?
“(My cousin and I) were just giving it a go socially at the back end of last year and we were loving it,” Diramacca said.
“We thought we might as well play as members, try a couple of comps, but not take it crazy serious.”
Sure enough, serious intentions or not, Diramacca has managed to etch his name onto the board.
It’s just too bad that David’s achievements weren’t highlighted to the same extent.
“David got a hole-in-one earlier this year as well, on the very same hole too,” Diramacca said.
“But that was in a social game, so unlucky for him.”
Though undoubtedly the day’s highlight, Diramacca ultimately enjoyed success by day’s end.
He and Eastman claimed a one-two finish in B-grade competition, with Eastman declared victorious on a countback.
That swing of the four-hybrid on hole five will be the enduring memory, though.
“We went up and we were amazed that it fell in,” Diramacca said.
“Chances are I’ll never hit a hole-in-one again, so I’ll enjoy this one.
“I just want to thank the clubhouse. They’ve been really welcoming to us since we got here.”
