Shepparton East, Rochester secure safety funding

Improved safety will be on the agenda for two of the region’s football clubs, with the 2022 WorkSafe Club Safety Fund recipients announced.

Both the Shepparton East Football Netball Club and Rochester Football Netball Club were successful in their application for the financial assistance, with the clubs among 10 recipients from around Victoria.

Through the WorkSafe Club Safety Fund, all of the AFL Victoria country clubs could apply for funding of up to $5000, with the goal to provide financial assistance to make improvements to the safety of their grounds along with health and safety initiatives for players, volunteers and supporters.

Head of AFL Victoria Ben Kavenagh congratulated all successful clubs.

“The Club Safety Fund is just one of the many ways WorkSafe supports our regional and rural clubs. We thank them for ensuring that the safety of our players, supporters and environments is always top of mind,” Kavenagh said.

“These safety improvements support our goal of achieving a network of football facilities that are fit for purpose, welcoming and grow the game.”

Over the past 20 years, WorkSafe has helped more than 300 local football and netball clubs with funding and assistance dedicated to the health, safety and wellbeing of regional communities.

In order to be successful in receiving a grant, clubs were required to provide evidence that the money was needed to make their facilities safer and show evidence that an occupational health and safety or risk management program was being implemented.
