The region’s premier cycling facility has recently had an upgrade to its lighting structure thanks to the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
Greater Shepparton City Council announced on Monday the Shepparton Cycling Club velodrome had recently been fitted with new 300 lux LED lighting that now meets AusCycling standards.
The upgrades to the velodrome will hopefully mean the Shepparton Cycling Club can attract more riders and new events such as national competitions across both track and BMX racing.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali said the upgrades will hopefully lead to growth among Shepparton’s cycling community.
“The Shepparton Cycling Club hosted their annual Christmas Cycling Carnival under the revamped velodrome lights in December last year, with around 1,500 visitors descending on Greater Shepparton to utilise the facilities,” Sali said.
“The new lights are a huge improvement and ensure we are well placed to support local club training and competition activities, as well as major events which draw thousands of people to our region.”
The upgrade to the lighting facilities improves safety and quality conditions for riders, spectators and broadcasters.
Shepparton Cycling Club president Brett Lancaster said the club was highly appreciative of the upgrades.
“These new lights ensure safer conditions for our riders and club members and mean we don’t need to hire additional lighting for carnivals,” Lancaster said.
“We’re very happy with this support from Council and the Victorian Government.”
