The inugral Goulburn River Trail parkrun starts at 8am on Saturday, October 28.
Parkrun is a global 5km run, jog and walking event every Saturday morning.
Seymour event co-coordinator Peter Nunn said the event had been a work in progress for several years.
“I attempted to get this up in 2016,” he said.
“I approached the council back then and they didn’t know much about it.
“It was sort of only early days (of parkrun) in Victoria, let alone Australia.
“In the last probably, what is it, six months, seven months, Lucy (Linton) discovered it, and then she put it out there again. And here we are.
“There’s myself, Lucy and parkrun Australia monitor Marcus (Dening).
So we’ve been the Three Musketeers getting it all done.”
Linton ran workshops with Nexus Health to gauge what events community members would value having to improve children’s health.
Attendees requested parkrun as a project and gears were set into motion.
Linton said getting runners on track had been a path with many unexpected twists and turns.
“With our parkrun trail being (along) the beautiful Goulburn River in Seymour, that being a site that did get very badly damaged in the floods last year, it did mean that we did have a few setbacks in order to get it up and running,” she said.
“The response from the community was definitely all agreed on that that is a really suitable and great trail for it.
“We hear so often that the community loves that track just due to it being a really nice trail and really, I guess, a good place to do a walk or a run.
“It’s a very inclusive event and it’s open to anyone that’s looking to do it at any pace. And there’s no time limit to it.
“So you can walk, jog, run, and you can also volunteer or spectate as well.”
Linton and Nunn also faced naming rights as the name Seymour parkrun had already been taken by an event in Canada, but the event finally looks set to run.
Nunn cannot wait to see a crowd assemble on Saturday.
“The course is all good. It’s looking fantastic.” Nunn said.
“All we’re missing is people walking, jogging and even mums pushing prams.
“You’re allowed to walk your dog as long as you have your dog on a short leash.
‘’It’s open to everybody to be a part of and I’m excited to get it up with Lucy and Marcus to get it up and running and put Seymour on the map,” Nunn said.
