Seymour Golf Club hosted the Dalhousie District Australia Day four-ball event on Sunday, which saw a good field battle it out for the honours.

The district also presented the player of the year awards for 2024.
Seymour was represented well among the winners with the pair of James Fulton and Rodney Kuiper winning the day with a fantastic score of 47 points. Damien Humphry and Jac Smith-Williams were the runners-up with 44 points and the father-daughter pair of Mick and Heidi Prorok sneaked into fifth with a score of 42 points.
Glenda Woods was presented with the trophy for Dalhousie women’s player of the year for 2024. It’s the fourth time Woods has won this honour, which was achieved by travelling to a lot of events throughout the district and playing consistently.
Club results
The women played a stableford round on Wednesday, January 22, and the winner was Jane Hanson (7) with 35 points on a countback from Paula Britton. The nearest-the-pin on the 17th was Britton and the ball pool went to Hanson and Britton with 35 points.
The top score of the day went to the winner of the men’s stableford competition, with John Callaghan (12) having a great score of 39 points. The nearest-the-pins went to Greg Pell on the fourth, Gary Wright on the sixth, Darren Cook was closest on the 12th and on the 17th it was Sean Boland. The drive-and-pitch on the eighth was won by Peter Sawyer while the 15th stayed with the club.
The ball pool went to those with 35 points or better and included Callaghan, John Boruch, Bill Keating, Kevin Summers, Sawyer and James Bottaro.
The mixed nine-hole event was won by Stubby Byrne (24) with a nice score of 19 points.
Saturday was the final round of the summer cup with the winner being the player with the best three net scores out of the four rounds. There were a number of players who were vying for the title and Bill Matthews had a great last round to have a total of 211 and win the cup.
The next best was Ben Davey, who was three shots back on 214, with Bill Schaeffer-Steel one further back on 215.
In the daily results, the A-grade winner was Ian Richardson with a terrific score of 79-10=69 on a countback from Matthews. The B-grade winner was Davey with a good score of 82-12=70 on a countback from Glenn Cole. C-grade was won by Di Byrne, also with a nice score of 87-17=70 on a countback from Gary Neville.
The best scratch score of the day went to Matthews with 74. The nearest-the-pin on the fourth was Pell, on the sixth Cole was the closest, the 12th was also won by Pell and on the 17th it was Di Byrne.
Both the eighth and 15th drive-and-pitch were won by Matthews. The ball pool included Richardson, Matthews, Davey, Cole, Di Byrne, Neville, Will Schaeffer-Steel and Anthony Galofaro with net 71.
