The B-reserve girls romped their way into the decider last week, showing why they were minor premiers to defeat Mansfield 49-36 in the first semi final up in the High Country a fortnight ago.
They will meet the Eagles again on grand final day, after they defeated Echuca by three goals in the preliminary final on Sunday.
Seymour’s B-grade side had to do things a little tougher.
After finishing the season minor premiers, the Lions were upset by Rochester in the first semi final a fortnight ago, meaning they would have to front up at Deakin Reserve on Sunday for a preliminary final against Mooroopna.
With a large contingent of Seymour supporters behind them, the Lions would salute against the Cats on a rain-soaked court, controlling the game from start to finish to run away a convincing 49-42 victory.
A rematch against Rochester now awaits for Seymour, in what is a battle of the two clear top sides of season 2022.
Next Sunday B-reserve action will get under way at 11.30am, before the B graders take the court at 1pm — both matches will take place at Deakin Reserve in the lead up to the A-grade decider.
Seymour was unfortunately unable to mirror its netball heroics on the football field, with its reserves falling to Echuca by 10-points in a dramatic preliminary final on Sunday.
A strong first half wouldn’t be enough for the underdog Lions, as Echuca came from behind to secure a famous 6.8 (44) to 5.4 (34) triumph.
As torrential rain descended over Deakin Reserve, it was going to be a scrap from start to finish as both teams geared up for a battle of attrition.
And after a fast start kicking with the breeze, it appeared Seymour was well on its way to producing an upset over the Murray Bombers, booting three first quarter goals to take a 15-point quarter-time lead.
Echuca would narrow the gap with an impressive second term, kicking two goals to the Lions’ one to have the game perfectly set up for a big finish at the main break.
Trailing by nine points, the Murray Bombers would make their move in the premiership quarter, kicking two answered goals to hit the front for the first time and take a three-point lead into the final change.
And unfortunately for Seymour, it wasn’t able to rein in the might of the Murray Bombers, as they stood up in a frantic final term to run away 10-point victors.
Todd Lawrence was the focal point for the Lions up forward booting two goals, while Cooper Lubeck, Max McLean and Tom Barnes were prolific in the defeat.
