Electing to bat after winning the toss, Avenel was on the back foot early after handy bowling from the likes of Seymour’s Hamza Riaz, Kharl Sison and Matthew Miller, who each took two wickets.
But it was new recruit Angus Murray who did the damage for Avenel, smacking 104 while well supported by Gus Leunig (49), rocketing their side to a mammoth 8-245.
Seymour never really got going with the bat in reply, with Brett Gordon top-scoring with 27 runs for the visiting side, while Avenel’s Jamie Kanters claimed figures of 4-6 to see Seymour dismissed for 70 runs.
There was a positive result for Seymour in A-grade, however, clinching a hard-fought victory against Alexandra.
Playing at Chittick Park, the visitors won the toss and chose to bat first, but were well held by the Seymour bowlers to be all out for 108 runs. Brodey Pointon, Braidon Horkings and Hugh Smith all bowled well to each finish with three wickets.
Seymour’s run chase got off to a poor start, losing two early wickets, but with Lachlan Drummond (45) and Brodey Pointon (21) contributing well, Seymour seemed to be cruising at only four wickets down and with just 12 runs to get.
However, Alexandra struck back just when the game seemed to be over, taking four quick wickets to see the game suddenly hanging in the balance.
But Nicholas Quigg steadied the ship late, guiding Seymour across the line for the loss of eight wickets.
