Below are the some of the highlights from Saturday’s action as we whip around the grounds.
Deck the Hall with tons of fun
Mooroopna’s batters had a day out on Saturday in B-grade, with Tasman Hall and Troy Brown piling on a 180-run partnership on a gorgeous December afternoon to help steer their side to 4-240.
Hall raised the bat with 103 punctuated by 14 boundaries and two maximums, while Brown found the rope eight times.
Mooroopna A-grade coach Luke Zanchetta was full of praise for Hall’s innings, with the youngster in line for a game in the top division next year.
“He’s got so much talent,” Zanchetta said.
“He was definitely in the conversation (for A-grade) at the start of the year, he just had a bit of a sore shoulder.”
In return, the Cats strangled Old Students, keeping them to 165 all-out in reply, with Gino Saracino scoring nearly half of those runs with 82 from number six.
Rock it around the hat-trick tree
Ross Hammer, take a bow. The Old Students bowler picked up six wickets on Saturday, including a fabled hat-trick.
Hammer finished with 6-49 from his allotment of overs, with his third, fourth and fifth wickets coming one after the other.
All three of them were bowled, too, needing no help from teammates to get him to the milestone.
In fact, Hammer didn’t need any help for all six of his wickets, coming in with five stumps rattled and one LBW in his tally.
He wasn’t the only six-wicket haul in E-grade, either, with Waaia’s Ryan Trimby taking six of the seven wickets Nagambie lost on Saturday.
Jingle Bell chimes five times
Waaia had the jingle bells rocking early, with a stunning performance with the ball bringing Shepparton United.
Trent Bell took 5-23 from eight overs, while partner-in-crime James Wilson finished with 3-17 from nine, with United all out for 84 off 35 overs.
It was a quick chase, too, with the 84 runs chased down in 14 overs.
It wasn’t the only early finish, either, as Numurkah’s B-grade side obviously had somewhere to be on Saturday night, whacking 4-243 from its 45 overs, with Matthew Price finishing with an unbeaten 85.
Its bowlers put the pedal to the metal, with Bailey Roberts (5-23 from eight), Nick Dowell (3-32 from six) and Reydan Lacuin (2-2 from 1.5) sending Northerners packing in less than 16 overs for 59.
Parsons in a pear tree
Central Park-St Brendan’s B-grade players could have been excused for doing a double take on Saturday as Kyabram’s openers came out to tackle their imposing target of 175.
A pair of Parsons — Jason and Paul — came out to open the batting, and the duo put on 39 before the former was dismissed for 16, finally giving the Tigers relief from the Parsons punishment.
Paul, however, pushed on for an 85 not out, following on from his 69 in round two and 93 in round four, to bring the side home with a whopping 15 overs to spare with six wickets in hand.
A third Parsons — Patrick — picked up a wicket in Central Park’s batting innings, nabbing 1-35, while Paul nabbed 0-4 off four.
Mitch is making gravy
An unbeaten 100 in a 10-wicket win — Mitch Younger had everything an opener could want from Saturday’s D-grade clash with Northerners.
The Mooroopna opener hit 15 fours and three maximums on his way to an unbeaten 108, aided by an unbeaten 43 from partner Sean Cameron to easily chase down Northerners’ 8-152 without losing a wicket.
Tyson Woods nearly got to raise the bat on his own, finishing on 95 not out, running out of time to bring up the ton, while Ryan Sutherland finished with 85 for Pine Lodge to round out D-grade high scores.
