Blighty were the unlucky ones this week as they were tasked with the job of stopping a red hot Berrigan team.
The goal kicking massacre started from the word go as Berrigan’s connection between all three thirds of the oval gelled together nicely, this cohesion made goals easy to come by as delivery inside forward 50 was on point.
Berrigan came into half time with an impressive 102 point lead and after a short break it was evident that Berrigan had no intentions of slowing down.
The Saints ended the day with an astounding 31 goal tally, bringing them to a massive 158 point win.
The Berrigan supporters were ecstatic with many cheers of support murmuring from the grandstand side.
With 31 goals on the board, there had to be a main goal kicking maniac out there.
That would be none other than star forward Jordan Bird, ending the day with a groundbreaking 17 goals.
Complementing Jordan were brothers Brady and Rory Bartlett, who had nine perfect goals between them.
Complementing the forwards were impressive performances by Mason Peters and Zeke Carruthers.
Both have the incredible ability to push hard out of the backline and deliver perfect kicks to the targets leading at them.
Xavier Fox is also to be commended as with a few late outs, he was tasked with the job of being the Saints’ ruckman.
Although not the tallest player, Fox possesses an incredible vertical leap which allows him to compete high up in the air.
Grant Martin and Lochie Schifferle were also instrumental to the win.
Martin quickly stopped any of Blighty’s attempts to score, while Schifferle played hard and confident footy to ensure the ball continued to Berrigan’s advantage.
It was a great win that sees the seniors sitting at fourth on the ladder with a five wins two losses record.
Blighty’s senior footballers were caught a little short on Saturday with a couple of late outs, but were luckily able to find some quick replacements.
Andrew Simpson played arguably his best game for the year for the Redeyes while Dane Leyden, who was a bull around half forward, took big marks and kicked a couple of goals.
Aaron Litchfield moved into the ruck giving us a bit of the ball and Tyler Armstrong and Ben Margan gave their best effort, repelling a number of attacks.
Final score: Berrigan 31.11 (197) def Blighty 5.9 (39).
Reserves:
Berrigan’s reserves were rapt with their previous round win and were full of confidence as they ran out of the rooms to take on Blighty.
The Saints started a bit slower than they would have liked, but after some quick adjustments the game was back on Berrigan’s terms.
They walked in for a drink and chat for the quarter-time break with an already commanding lead.
Ending the game with a massive 93-point win, the Saints were ecstatic as they belted out the club song prior to the seniors game.
Steve Morgan and Kyle Hawker led the goal kickers for Berrigan with four goals apiece, with Ethan Mills, Rob Ryan and Troy Poynton contributing two goals each.
Alex Park continued his impressive run of form as he dominated possession across half back. Henry Zorzer and Matt Ross once again each played a terrific game of footy out of the middle, with both creating a terrific duo.
Another win for the Saints sits them at a more than respectable five wins for the year.
For Blighty, tall Zac Thompson was busy all game.
Brendan Brewer, Chris Hovenden and Brock Thompson refused to give in while the Redeyes’ defence was consistently under attack.
Dion Winter played well, as did George Fullerton and some of the less experienced players got the ball a little which is great to see.
Final score: Berrigan 15.17 (107) def Blighty 2.2 (14).
Fourths:
Saturday resulted in another massive win for the Berrigan fourths, beating Blighty by a mind-blowing 190-point margin.
This continues the young side’s unbeaten streak as they notch a seventh straight win to their tally.
Jordan Swann and Taylor Thornton proved yet again to be a dynamic goal kicking duo.
Both got on the end of six snags, followed closely by Zavier Binns with five goals and Will Batten with three goals.
The Berrigan fourths are well drilled and play an extremely entertaining fast-paced style of footy, with long leads resulting in incredible link-up plays through the centre.
The boys possess footballing wisdom beyond their years. Players are finding new levels of confidence out on the ground, which is great to watch.
Older players like Austin Ware and Tom Baxter are taking their already impressive skills to a whole new level, while younger ones like Dustin Ryan and Leroy Kortum build in confidence each week.
William Frost and Jake Wharton did a great job in the ruck for Blighty, but the side failed to get the ball out of the centre.
To Blighty’s credit, the boys and girls showed no sign of giving up, and they kept trying until the last siren.
The best on ground for the Redeyes was Millie Hanmer, taking some great overhead marks.
Pip Bain worked hard in centre-half forward, putting in some great tackles and working hard to get the ball out.
A first-time player with the Redeyes, Dylan Coyle showed a great commitment in getting possession of the ball.
William Frost had another great game covering many positions, including ruck, ruck-rover, and fullback.
Other players to mention are Jack Brown and Ben Macdonald, who showed great improvement in speed and had a go at the ball.
Jake Wharton also played another good game in the centre.
Final score: Blighty 0.0 (0) def by Berrigan 29.16 (190).
Fifths:
While not officially scored, Blighty’s fifths had a great win against Berrigan.
The team is playing great team football.
Charlie Trimble had a great game for Blighty, along with Jack Brown, Tom Bain and Zane Sibraa.
