Winning the toss the Saints elected to bat in the hot conditions, however it was Katamatite’s bowling that was even hotter with Matt Ross (8), Lochie Conboy (6) and Luke Melville (0) all back in the shed with the Saints at 3/20 after a strong opening spell from James Irvine (2/16) and Archie Daniel (1/19).
Jacob Bartlett and Andrew Parr absorbed the pressure of Katamatite’s bowling to build a partnership.
The two took the score past 50.
The two batted patiently and started to get on top of Katmatite’s bowling with singles and boundaries freeing up for the Saints.
However, with the score on 89 a rush of blood from Bartlett saw him stumped for 38 off Kepler Lukies (6/29).
Lukies’ spin continued to be tough to face with balls turning and jumping and with the score on 111 Lukies struck again claiming Rory Bartlett for 9 bowled and then shortly later Parr bowled for 47.
When Grant Martin fell for a duck, Katamatite were back in control at 7/124.
The Saints tail then stepped in and took over with Jeremy Packer (3), Graeme Parr (19), Matt Whelan (15) and Lachie Packer (8 not out) the Saints finished all out for 169 in the 74th over.
With six overs remaining in the day Katamatite finished the day at 0/10.
Under-15s
Berrigan's under-15s resumed after their January break for their round six match at home taking on Tocumwal.
The Saints won the toss and after an early wicket, Lachlan Packer and Jordan Swann set about building a big score for the Saints.
The two batted smartly putting the bad balls away with Swann eventually retiring on 70 not out.
Jack Phillips joined Packer in the middle and continued the flow of runs for the Saints until Packer was run out for 42 and then Blake Davidson followed shortly after bowled by Lucas Barron (2/8).
Jack Phillips (21) and Ollie Batten (10) batted well to see the Saints finish their 40 overs 5/174 with Harry Ellis and Harvey Swann both 2 not out and the end of the Day.
Next week the Saints will try to defend their total.
