Despite the heat, both sides had a good hitout in each of the matches.
The Rovers thirds’ defensive pressure was a stand-out, and in the seniors Rovers’ recruits Rivva Karpany, Nick Hay and Jayden Pitts all looked composed on the ball.
The seniors started the game well, turning early pressure into scores.
They looked good early but fell away as the game and heat intensified, with quarters after half-time shortened to alleviate the discomfort a little.
The Rovers thanked the Deniliquin Rams Football & Netball Club for hosting the practice matches, with Memorial Park playing surface needing recovery time after it was used for the Deniliquin Show horse events.
The Rams ran the canteen and bar for the Rovers.
The club also thanked Griffith Football Club for making the trip to Deni for the practice matches, especially in such hot conditions, as well as the umpires - specifically Brendan East and Jonas Elphick in the seniors game - and the water runners, fruit handlers, and all the others who helped out on the day.
