Captained by Bill Puckett, the Roar managed to power into the round three clash after putting away two goals in the first half, thanks to first-class efforts by Clement Perrot.
Two goals down at half-time, St Pats was looking to make any kind of headway it could as the second half got under way, and it wasn’t until after a dose of crafty footwork from Finn Hegarty that the visitors found bottom bins.
But it was too little, too late for the visitors, even as the Roar struggled to convert a handful of chances in front of goal with the exception of a late second-half effort by Florian Dambricourt to take the score to 3-1 at full-time.
Roar coach Daniel Vasilevski said his side went fairly well with a convincing result.

“The first half was excellent. We started really well, knocking the ball around, creating lots of chances. But we just need to do that for ninety minutes, not seventy,” he said.
“I thought knowing we were two goals in front, we sat back a bit.
“Conceding one fairly late in the game is something we have to work on.”
Sunday saw a handful of young talents step up to the plate, with Ted Thompson in defence and George Wiles starting in the midfield.
It might still be early days in the season, but Vasilevski was pleased with how his side was looking.
“I think we’re looking good. Obviously, there are a few things to work on, but we’re certainly making lots of chances so that’s promising,” he said.
“We just need to convert. If we can convert those chances, I think we’ll be very strong.”
The Roar has now moved into fifth on the ladder, and faces seventh-placed Twin City Wanderers at Apex Park on Sunday, March 30 for a 3pm kick-off.
