Starting Wednesday and concluding yesterday at Sydney Olympic Park, athletes qualified for the state championships after finishing in the top three places at the Riverina Athletics Carnival in Albury last month.
Speaking to the Pastoral Times before they departed for Sydney earlier in the week, local athletics coach and educator Sarah Young said she was excited for the children who had put a lot of work in to get to state level.
“A lot of these kids going to the NSW PSSA Athletics are training regularly,” she said.
“A lot have been training since at least April this year in preparation for the state cross country, which worked well when they transitioned to the track in July.”
District athletes competing in Sydney are listed below, by school.
Edward PS - Reece King (100m), Isabella Goodear (shot put).
Deni South PS - Vivienne Thomson (800m,1500m, high jump).
Deni North PS - Lotus Gallpen-Brown (100m, 200m, long jump), Oliver Hall (800m, 1500m), Charlotte Gatacre (800m, 1500m), Freida Lotus-Brown (100m), Oli Dellwo (discus).
Mathoura PS - Sophie Eddy (100m, 200m 800m, 1500m, relay), Jonathon Moorse (discus, relay), Katelyn Eddy (relay), Bindi Taylor (relay)
Bunnaloo PS - Oliver Laffan (discus).
