Emphatic wins by ladder leader Central Park-St Brendan’s and Nagambie in Cricket Shepparton’s third last round on Saturday have boosted Kyabram’s chances of playing finals and defending its premier crown.
Kyabram picked up Haisman Shield premiership points for the bye on Saturday and is now equal on points with Nagambie, in third and second place respectively.
Numurkah, Waaia and Katandra are the other teams jostling for spots in the top six with one one-day game and one two-day game remaining before the finals after the current round wraps up.
Kyabram meets Old Students, which is out of finals contention, in the one-day game on Saturday, February 8, in Shepparton and then hosts ladder leader Central Park-St Brendan’s in the final round, a two-day match.
On Saturday, Central Park-St Brendan’s compiled a healthy 8-225, which could not be matched by Tatura players who finished with a brave 180.
Nagambie skittled Waaia for just 103 in 38.1 overs on the back of a destructive spell of bowling from Brayden Briggs who took 4-19 off nine overs.
Nagambie was 2-27and 3-38 in reply, but Mark Nolan, with an unbeaten 59, carried his team across the line to secure a first innings lead for his side.
X Katandra was also remains in the thick of the fight to play finals despite a loss to Mooroopna on Saturday.
