A well-oiled and primed Rennie ‘’Green Machine’’ took out the 15-and-under Picola District Netball League premiership by 18 goals on Saturday.

Opposition Tungamah was second best in every department – not for want of trying – against a methodical Hoppers, taking the spoils 39-21 following a convincing all-round showing.
You could not wipe the smile from coach Illa Crawford’s face at the final hooter, Rennie’s mentor chuffed to see four-plus months of hard work materialise over 60 minutes of netball.
“The girls have outdone themselves all season,” she said.
“They’ve been there, they’ve presented at training with 100 per cent effort and the teamwork, the determination, the drive, it’s been amazing all season.
“I’m so bloody proud of every single one of them to get this far and to win the flag against Tungamah, mate words can’t describe it.”
There was no shortage of green in the crowd to cheer Rennie on and the travelling support played its part as the Hoppers dominated the first half.
Up 19-9 at the main break Rennie continued to sail along nicely and built an unassailable 15-goal buffer by three-quarter time.
Mabel Cope was on target for Rennie, moving and shaking up Tungamah’s defensive mainstays, while goaling partner Alani Peterson was also hard to fault inside the ring.
While the Bears struggled to hit their mark the Green Machine ― which one poster depicted ― was busy across the court from post to post.
Peterson was left in too much space towards the end and was allowed to cash in as she finished with 24 goals in the victory.
A hint of irony was attached to another poster on the far fence reading ‘‘no one dares to mess with the Bears’’.
Because on that day, Rennie did.
“We went into last week against Deni as a ball of nerves and the whole taboo of playing a team at their home ground,” Crawford said.
“We came in this week knowing the competition Tungamah were going to put up and it could be a tight game and the girls’ composure throughout all of it (was great).
“They kept it together, they steadied themselves down the court and did everything that we all asked of them, so it was awesome to see.”
