The Redbacks continued their dominance of the GM3 competition at the weekend, claiming a clean sweep of all sets against Cobram Cobras.
In such a dominant display it is difficult to pinpoint standouts for the day, but despite this, Sonya McCraw continued to build on her impressive start to the season, only dropping one game for the day.
McCraw won 8-0 with first-year player Lisa Walters, 8-0 with Marg Haw and 8-1 in her mixed doubles with Xavier Dodos.
Dodos also showed he is adapting well to senior tennis in his first season with an impressive 6-1 victory in his singles.
Ben Dickens continued to show improvement, winning all three of his sets as the number one man, including a 6-4 victory in his singles, 8-7 victory partnering Darren Woodcock in the doubles and an 8-2 victory with Haw.
The result leaves the Redbacks sitting pretty on the top of the ladder leading into the Melbourne Cup weekend bye.
GM2 Cobram Crocs 6-65 d Kyabram Bombers 5-47
In GM2, Kyabram suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of the reigning premier Cobram.
Kyabram’s men again led from the front, going undefeated in their four sets.
Highlighted by singles victories by father son duo David and Kade Starling 6-0, 6-3 respectively.
This combined with two hard-fought tiebreaker victories for the Starlings partnering captain Mitchell Cox, led to a tight 13-game deficit that Kyabram was hoping to overcome going into the final three mixed sets.
Unfortunately, Kyabram only managed the single 8-4 victory by Cox and Kat Wearne leading to an 18-game loss.
Kyabram will look to get back to winning ways against Shepparton Lawn Blues following the league-wide bye.
GM4 Open Kyabram Bombers 6-64 d Numurkah Raptors 3-49
The GM4 Open side continued its strong start to the season, remaining undefeated to start the season with a solid 15-game victory.
In what was an even contribution from all members of the team, Anthony Li went through the day undefeated securing an 8-5 victory with Rebekah Lawson, 8-6 victory with co-captain Scott Hausler and an 8-3 victory with Michael Argaet.
Argaet also went through the day undefeated with an 8-7 victory with the other co-captain Amy Harrison and an 8-3 victory with recruit Rachael Costello.
Costello, who was making her debut for the club, showed that she will also be a valuable member of this team.
In its first season in the division Kyabram is shaping up to be very competitive, sitting second on the ladder leading into the weekend off despite being one of the few teams to already have had a bye
