But after the competition's resumption at the weekend, Rance is ready to roar for the Lions against Mansfield at Kings Park on Saturday.
“At this stage the only thing that can make him not play is COVID, which is obviously what happened last time,” Seymour's Ben Clifton said.
“He's probably the highest profile player to play in the GVL for a while now.
“Seymour hasn't been a club to really do that in the past, but through my connections with him the opportunity has come up.”
Rance has not pulled on the boots since early 2019, but is ready to lace up the long-stops alongside Clifton once more.
“I work with him at his footy academy in Essendon, I've been there for about five years,” Clifton said.
“But we also played a bit of footy together, more than a decade ago now, when he was at Richmond and I was at Coburg.”
Not yet rescheduled though is the function which was meant to be staged after Rance's initial debut game — the time-honoured Mr Seymour contest.
“We're giving the contestants a bit more time to get ready for it, and who knows — Alex might still be able to come up for it,” Clifton said.
“But with restrictions the way they are we didn't want to also try and run that function when we're expecting a big crowd to watch Alex play.
“We're very excited at the den and we want as many people to come along as is allowed — but we obviously don't want to be breaking any rules around the restrictions.”
Seymour's senior footballers remain undefeated in the current campaign.
