Occupying sixth in the Picola District Netball League standings, United faces what presents itself as a tall order; Katamatite on its home court.
Although the Tigers currently lead the league, they’re reeling from two losses from their past three games whereas United buried Berrigan by 39 goals in its latest outing.
It creates the perfect storm for an upset and United coach Emma Greaves knows it.
“We have a very tough game ahead, but we’ve slowly been gelling together. Our teamwork has been flying the past few games,” Greaves said.
“We’ve been getting into some good form and consistency lately, so it will be great to put that to the test against Katty.
“They’ll come out fighting for a win — their full-court pressure and goalers will be good, so we have to make sure we work the ball around smartly.”
Even though Katamatite has faltered slightly in June, it still towers above the competition in the goals-for department.
Luckily for Greaves and co, United’s defence has been its prime asset.
“Every week someone different is really stepping up, but the defence has done a fantastic job all season,” Greaves said.
“Our confidence in the attacking end, we have been working harder on our connections at training and it is starting to click for the girls.”
For Katunga and Tungamah, whichever side emerges from their meeting with four points is guaranteed a move up the ladder.
Both have games in hand on teams situated higher, but the Swans are favoured having claimed two more wins than the Bears.
Reigning premier Strathmerton also has ground to make up, but can stay with the pack by dealing with Katandra.
Deniliquin Rovers are another which could greatly benefit from a win, with four points almost certain to catapult the side into the top six.
The Rovers host Tocumwal and must be on alert with the Bloods boasting a surprising goal shooting proficiency for their ninth position.
Waaia treks to Yarroweyah for the round’s biggest mismatch, while Berrigan and Rennie do battle in Saints territory.
Finally, Mathoura squares off against Blighty while Jerilderie has the weekend off to regroup.
