Playing at Northern Oval at Kyabram, Nondies won the toss and sent the home side in to bat with Flames openers Brett Andison and Miller Griffiths getting it off to a promising start before Griffiths was removed for 17 by Archie Sussex (1-51).
Co-captain Newman strode out to the crease with his side 1-57 and from that point on it was pure carnage, as he combined with Andison for an unbelievable stand.
They plundered the visiting bowlers, dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground as they amassed a ridiculous 229-run partnership, with Andison saluting a magnificent 115 from 112 before he was dismissed by Leigh Johnson (1-55).
But it was Newman who was the star of the day, with the Flames skipper joining Andison as a centurion, before going on to blast an unbeaten 214 as he steered Fire Brigade to a massive 4-402 from 45 overs.
The manner in which Newman accumulated his runs was rather absurd, smacking 22 fours and 15 maximums, while facing only 123 balls to eclipse the previous highest season total of 176, set by BLU’s Regis Chakabva.
Nondies-Cohuna’s Aiden Konopka did his best in the face on the onslaught, claiming 2-37 to be the pick of the visiting bowlers.
With a formidable 405 runs set to win, the chase got off to a relatively positive start, with Karim Marcelle (22) and Patrick Doyle (40) putting on an opening stand of 49 before Doyle was dismissed by Tom Owen (3-42).
Another strong stand between Marcelle and Sussex (45) frustrated the Flames, before it was Owen again who broke the game open, claiming the wicket of Sussex to reduce Nondies to 2-108, before Jack Donnell (1-20) removed Will O’Shea (4) to have the visitors reeling at 3-117.
Owen immediately claimed his third scalp, dismissing the determined Marcelle without the score being advanced, and when Brenton Sheppard (1-1) joined the party and sent Broden Wishart (1) packing, it looked as though the inevitable was set to occur.
Mother Nature was on Nondies-Cohuna’s side, with the match abandoned while the visitor sat on 5-130 from 21.4 overs, but a recent update has handed Fire Brigade maximum points in the days following the match.
Meanwhile, Tongala was no match for the might of Moama.
The Blues could only muster a meagre 60 runs before the 10th wicket fell, with home side Moama chasing down the total in 5.3 overs without dismissal.
Jordan McGregor led the line with the ball for Moama, collecting 4-6 off eight overs, while Archie Teasdale top-scored with 25 not out.
Elsewhere, Echuca South stumped up a classy 80-run triumph over Cooma.
Rathika Rajakumara’s knock of 48 was instrumental in aiding the Swans to 144 and later Ben Eade chimed in with four wickets to help bowl the host out for 64.
Lastly, the games between Bamawm-Lockington United and Rochester and Echuca versus Leitchville-Gunbower were scratched due to poor weather.
