Not literally — but you wouldn’t put it past her.
The 13-year-old Numurkah wunderkind is competing at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide this weekend and, though, she hasn’t used seven league boots to get there, they might come in handy.
Her chosen events are about flight: long jump and triple jump.
However, it was the world of fast twitch fibres and flat-out pavement pounding that first piqued her interest.
“My dad was a runner, it was just something I did when I was little,” she said.
“I got into it and then I couldn’t stop running around.”
Robertson learned to hone that gift, discovering the only point worth stopping at was the finish line.
She competed at nationals in the 200m back in Year 5, but after finding her groove hurling herself into sandpits at pace, the teen sensation is eager to test herself against the best again.
“I’m feeling a bit nervous, but I’m really excited because it’s such a good and new experience and I’m very lucky that I’m able to do it,” she said.
“I get to go with my friends from Vic that I’ve been competing with and against for the last five years. I’ll be able to create some strong bonds with them.”
One might ask; how does Robertson train for her events?
The answer is, well, she doesn’t.
A few runs here and there, mixed in with netball training and the odd junior athletics development squad session makes Robertson an anomaly in the track and field circuit.
She may not know the weight of her achievement, but it’s certainly not lost on her mum Rachel.
“Other athletes have had coaches since under-9s and train 10 hours a week,” she said.
“We don’t have access to that in the country like those metro kids get, so it’s a pretty amazing feat to get where she’s been.”
Robertson not only shines at athletics, but is a real up-and-comer in netball and cricket.
On the court, she’s earned call-ups to multiple rep sides and is through to the Victorian trials while making the Junior Country Week cricket side as a bowler.
She’ll undoubtedly shine at whatever sport she sticks to, but for Robertson, this weekend is also about going the distance.
Robertson wished to thank Shepparton Little Athletics for its encouragement and support through her journey.
