Inclement weather has asterisked the club’s annual tournament on October 6-8, but every intention has been put forward for the event to go ahead.
Downpours throughout the week have dampened the course — but not spirits — as organiser David Ludington said the club is willing to push on in whatever capacity possible.
“We’re hoping it’s still going ahead at least on Sunday, but the others, we’re just going to play by ear, wait a couple of days and see how the course ends up,” he said.
“Obviously, if it goes ahead, we’re hoping for a good tournament, but I think with the amount of rain we’ve got, the Friday and Saturday could be in jeopardy.
“We’re not sure about Sunday yet. But if people want to enter they still can and we can let them know if it’s not going ahead.”
The women’s four-ball stableford action was slated for a 9am start on Friday, while the men are to tee off from noon.
Saturday’s mixed yankee play was on track to begin at 12.30pm and the men’s open 18-hole event was due to kick off at 11am on Sunday.
A call will be made before the tournament starts on whether the course is fit to host.
The main concern surrounds the vast majority of players using carts which may cause significant damage to the grounds in the wet.
However, Ludington said the event’s history is proud and to see it run if only for a day would be better than nothing.
“It’s our annual tournament, it’s been going for a long time and we normally get a few of the better players from the Goulburn Valley turn up to it on the Sunday,” he said.
“It’s the highlight of the golfing year as far as our tournaments go.
“It’s been going around this time of year as long as I can remember.”
Ludington stated the tournament often attracts several low-marker players from around the traps, with strong entries despite steady showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We’ve got about 50 or 60 (entries) for the Sunday at the moment but the weather will dictate how that goes — but (the numbers) aren’t too bad, they’re about normal,” he said.
“Entries for Friday and Saturday are down a bit but here again that’s probably got something to do with the weather.
“We’re taking more entries but people need to bear in mind that if we do make the call weather-wise, that could impact them. But we’ll let everyone know what’s going on.”
