That is the motto Kyabram District League is pushing with its annual “No Violence” round which returns on Saturday.
Led by Preventing the Cycle of Violence project, the initiative is in its eighth year.
Detective Sergeant Thelma Bull of the Shepparton Family Violence Investigation Unit will read the player address at Murchison-Toolamba versus Undera — the weekend’s feature game — with project lead Tracy Hardie speaking on the importance of targeting country sport.
“The sporting arena is the perfect opportunity to target many players and their families in rural areas, while covering a large majority of the region” Hardie said.
“The aim is to reduce, prevent, engage and assist our communities, working together to develop partnerships and strategies which will create a future free from violence within our relationships, families and communities. While encouraging all to stand up and call it out.
“This initiative highlights prevention of violence and protection for all women and children and the KDL is leading the way”.
Hardie thanked the league and its affiliated clubs for their commitment with this initiative.
League president Fraser Kerrins also took the opportunity to throw his support behind the cause.
“The league is proud to be associated with this initiative and our involvement recognises the role of the football and netball community to promote responsible behaviour both on and off field” Kerrins said.
All league-affiliated clubs will stand behind the Say No To Violence message in their respective clashes, with senior football and A-grade netballers lining up opposite each other for a player address to pledge their support before the game.
After matches are finished, football players will assemble for umpires to announce the player that displayed the greatest sportsmanship on the day. The awarded player will receive a Rebel Sports gift voucher.
