The project is part of the $5.2 million third phase of the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
“At the December meeting, council nominated four projects that were consistent with the funding criteria,” council general manager development Paul McKenzie said.
“One of those being an upgrade to netball courts and lighting at the Kyabram Recreation Reserve, with a project value of $750,000.
“We are waiting on the Federal Government’s approval of the projects endorsed by council. In the meantime, the project has been put out for tender. The works involve constructing a new court, players’ shelter, retaining wall and court lighting.
“As we are currently in the procurement stage of the project, dates and time-frames have not yet been determined.”
Mayor Chrissy Weller said council had noted there might be delays in the netball projects due to the lack of tender responses to date to complete the works.
However, the tender has outlined that the contract will be awarded on April 1, and the site will be handed over to the contractor following the completion of the Goulburn Valley League season on October 3, with completion of construction required by December 16.
Council said the current second netball court at Kyabram Recreation Reserve was “beyond intervention level” and not suitable for official fixtures and only marginally suitable for training.
“Beyond intervention level”: The second netball court at Kyabram Recreation Reserve is in poor condition.
The second court is more than 150m away from the first and the construction will have the new second court built adjacent to the first to improve spectating, umpiring and electricity infrastructure.
Cr Weller said council had been allocated the third-round funding of $5,245,590 on top of more than $5 million already received from the first two rounds.
“The Federal Government initiative has enabled us to improve public accessibility, visual amenity and safety of some key council-owned assets, while also supporting jobs and stimulating the economy and we thank our local member Damian Drum for his efforts on our behalf,” she said.
