Six senior women’s teams will battle it out for the premiership, with Benalla, Nathalia, Tatura, Mooroopna, Shepparton United and Echuca in the race for the title.
This year the league will look different to last, with the youth girls moving from the Shepparton District Junior Football League to the NCWL.
What this means is eight youth girls teams will participate under the same umbrella as the senior teams, with Mooroopna, Shepparton, Nathalia, Moama, Shepparton United, Echuca United, Seymour and Shepparton Swans now having youth girls teams under the league’s banner.
League chairman Chris Thomas said this season was a rebirth as it looks to overcome the issues faced with COVID-19 during the past two seasons.
“We pride ourselves on our values of being welcoming, inclusive, and respectful to all and encourage all women’s and youth girls players who may have thought about playing footy to jump in and have a go,” Thomas said.
He encouraged potential players to head out, join a club and participate in the great game.
“Coming out of COVID-19, after two years, there is no better time to get involved and start a new journey in the NCWL,” he said.
“If you are interested, get in touch with one of the aforementioned clubs as they would love to have more players participating.”
Action is set to begin on Sunday, March 20, with a pre-season cup round-robin tournament involving teams from across Victoria set to occur.
In the morning prior to the start of the tournament, a come and try non-contact skills session will be facilitated by AFL Goulburn Murray with all youth girls and women players welcome to attend.
