The Corowa crew lined up in the first of two heats needing a top two finish to progress through to the A final.
Having their first row at Geelong the girls came up against strong opposition with the Fintona crew having the best of the starts to take the early lead.
On the podium: Bronze medalists Fintona, gold medalists The Scots School, silver medalists Korowa Grammar.
The Corowa girls found their rhythm as they moved into the all-important second place by the halfway mark.
In the last 500 metres the girls put in a big effort and pushed into the lead to claim the heat win.
The conditions changed for the four-crew final with the heat and wind increasing.
The Corowa girls again trailed early from the start but were still well placed for their strong mid race push.
The pair moved out clear with the Korowa Grammar crew and the race was on for the gold medal.
The Corowa girls moved into the lead but a strong finish from the Korowa Grammar saw an exciting finish with the local girls holding on to win by less than a second.
A fantastic result for Indi and Charlotte as they know they have more improvement and boat speed to come as they prepare for the prestigious Head of the School Girls Regatta at the same venue on March 14 - 16.
The Corowa Rowing Club will also have other female members; Imogen Tomlinson, Phoebe Packer, Sommers Hogan, Imogen Wragge, Anastasia McFarlane and Eily Taylor competing for their schools at the HOSG regatta.
The club’s focus now turns to the Victorian State Championships held over two days at Nagambie, this weekend March 2 and 3. The club will have school girls and open male rowers competing over the 2000m course on Saturday, with the grade and Under 15 rowers competing over the 1000m on Sunday.
Anyone interested in rowing is encouraged to call in during the week as the season comes to an end and the club prepare for the off season and masters training.
