The annual event has seen the club raise more than $20,000 for the foundation in the past two years.
It had caught the attention of McGrath Foundation chief executive officer Tracey Bevan, Nagambie Cricket Club president Ryan Matthews said.
“When I came on as president, we hadn’t had a ladies day for a number of years and my wife was willing to jump on board and help organise a day and there’s no better day to have than the Pink Stumps Day,” he said.
“It draws a big crowd. I think in our first year of doing it we had 120 ladies there, which was a bit of a shock to Nagambie Cricket Club because I don’t think we’ve ever had that before.
“The second year, last year, we had the same crowd of 120, which has donated some good money. I think the first year (the club donated) $900 and the second year was $12,000.
“This year, Tracey Bevan, the McGrath Foundation CEO, contacted us and said she would like to attend as its our third year and we’ve donated some good money to the foundation, so she would like to come along and be a guest speaker, which has been great for our club.”
The crowd will hear from not only Bevan, but also a number of other speakers that will touch on their personal experiences with cancer, with entertainment including a performance from a drag queen to follow.
“We have some guest speakers that will tell their story, whether they have beaten cancer or had a family member or friend that had cancer, so there will be a couple of stories told,” Matthews said.
“Annabelle Cleeland is coming down, she’s going to open up the day and say a few things, and then we’ve got Tracey Bevan as well as I just mentioned, she’s going to come down and say a few things as well.
“We’ve got some entertainment, we’ve got a drag queen. We’ve had one the last two years and that has been fun, it gets the crowd up and going, and we’ve also got live music, food and plenty of drink.”
Local businesses have jumped on board to donate items for silent auctions and raffles, while a number of big ticket items will also be auctioned off live in the room.
Nagambie Cricket Club’s Pink Stumps Day runs from 3pm to 6pm. Tickets cost $65 and can be purchased from https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1337665
