Nathalia in the senior football and cross-town rivals Echuca United and Moama in the A-grade netball have dominated the past five seasons of top-level flags in the region.
The Purples will certainly be there when the whips are cracking again this year, but plenty of rivals are jostling for the opportunity to take down the greatest dynasty in the history of the competition.
2019 challenger Tongala will be around the mark, with the group keen for another crack on the last day of September.
Congupna has recruited a large cohort of experienced footballers to help it take another step in its development, while Barooga looks to be getting plenty of the band back together — and has signed Jackson Trengrove to boot.
Mulwala cannot wait to unleash the one-two midfield punch of Bodhi Butts and Jackson Gash, while the likes of Rumbalara, Finley and Cobram will challenge for finals action.
And with Katandra and Tungamah leaving the league it brings the number of competitors back to 12.
On the court, Moama and Deniliquin will again be among the premier performers, but watch out for Rumbalara and Nathalia who look primed for a top-four finish.
The Purples especially should soar up the table with Tamara Skinner and Kirsty Hommes on board this year.
But from there, like in most campaigns, it is anyone's guess as to where squads will land - especially after 18 months of no competitive netball.
